My cat LOVES climbing the christmas tree! We’ve put baracades up around it and he still climbs over it or does whatever it takes to get into the tree. We thought that by sealing off the tree, he would lose intrest in it and play with the MANY toys/climbing aparatus’ he has. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
LOL, I’m hoping to find a solution. He likes to climb in it, sit there, and then tries to attack the ornaments. He’s only 5 months old so in another 2 weeks, he’s going to get fixed so hopefully that will help some but thanks for the suggestions! Hope we all find an answer.

Get a spray bottle and fill it with water, keep it nearby. When you see the cat attacking the xmas tree spray him in the face. Cats **** this, they **** the water and the noise and everything about it. He will stop after a few times of you spraying him.
Trust me it works!
Good luck!

If you figure it out, I like to know how. 2 of our cats will actually jump into the tree, often knocking it down! I **** to think about puttint the tree up this year! The water spray bottle dosen’t stop them either, at least not for long.

I will be eagerly watching this thread! I am living in dread of my cat (1 year old) taking roost in the Christmas tree. I fear it’s inevitable!
Edited to add: I’m thinking of putting up my christmas tree with nothing in it for a few days and fixing it so that if he jumps into it lots of rattles or coins or something noisy will happen to try and deter the behaviour. Not hugely hopeful – he still loves lying on my ironing board, yet he knows he gets sprayed if he does. Cheeky little blighter!

Are you kidding……………I haven’t had a tree in years. All things considered, I would much rather have a kitty than a tree. 🙂

wind some bare wire around the inside of the tree and plug it in.

There are many possible solutions besides spraying your tree:
A) Put a barrier of some sort around your Christmass Tree to prevent your cat from making contact
B) I’m sure there are some kinds of materials they sell that repel cats (Liquids?) that you can use (NOT ON YOUR CAT). You could put it on your Christmas Tree or around it to prevent your cat from coming near.
C) (IF) You’r Christmas Tree is in a room that you dont use very much (that has a door) just close the door when no ones using it or when someones in it.
D) Keep watch and everytime you see your cat going near the Christmas Tree, carry him/her away.
E) Occupy your cat, you could get him/her a scratching post, a self automated toy, a remote controlled mouse (Yes they do sell those, I know for a fact ((I have one)) ).
F) This isnt exactly my best choice…Shut her up in a room with marbles and toys that she could play with, and someone to play with (I wouldnt though)
G) Get/Make something that would grab your cat’s attention from the tree (You could take some boxes and make a play house or a tunnel of some sort, or buy a post or play pen)
H) Again, not the best choice, move you Christmas Tree to a basement or attic (Somewhere that you dont use) until (A couple days before?) Christmas Eve or Chrismas
I) If there are ornaments and other strings and catchy things on your Christmas tree remove them until Christmas Eve- You could have a family get-to-gether and hang them back up again
J) Punish your cat (Not harshly) everytime he jumps on your tree, spray it, flick it’s nose, toss it (GENTLY) away, ect.

With dangling ornaments and bright sparkling lights on it, there is no way you can prevent kitty from climbing and playing. Even a water bottle won’t help unless you are standing right there 24 hrs a day.

My cats are very brave but ive found 2 thinkgs they CANT stand,,,their mortal enemy the Vacum cleaner, just turn it on and AWAY they go……second a compressed air can..(lysol, oust, body spray) whatever it is just a spray in the air from a room away and my cats take off for the hills…and i have NEVER sprayed them with one so figure that one out….. If all else fails buy a dog and tie him up to the tree…..o and name him SPIKE for good measure )
