I got a new christmas tree and i put it up to see if i like it and my cat will not leave it alone. He will not stop biting it and has climbed it a coulple of times. How do I get him to leave it alone? I have tried the spray bottle but he likes water. What can i do?

Go to a pet store and buy some cat repellent. Spray the bottom portion of the tree and the tree skirt twice a day. Cats **** the stuff, but humans hardly notice any smell.

Hi, try spraying your tree (where your cat reach) with pine scent or any kind of strong scent. Is knowing that animals do not like strongs smells.

You might just have to accept it 🙂
I’ve had 3 cat’s over the years & all of them did what they wanted, no matter how much you try to discipline them. But I did hear that putting orange peel in the branches has worked for some people, but I haven’t tried it.

Cat repellent spray works… keep in mind that when you put the decorations up, he is going to want to play with those too!! Mmmm, shiny stuff… don’t let him eat the tinsel… it will make him sick and his **** will be all sparkly… Christmas in the litter box!!!

Well…here’s a couple of ideas:
1) Roll with it! Instead of fighting the cat to stay out of the tree…secure the tree stand to a piece of plywood and put guide wires up to secure it. Then hang kitty friendly ornaments (soft ones) and let him have his fun. Keep off all angel hair and tinsel…all glass ornaments will be launched like missles…so use plastic and plushy ornaments only.
2) Do like someone I read about from a ferret list who…to keep her ferrets out of the tree…hung it upside-down from the ceiling!! This link for the tree comes with complete instructions on how to do it safely…:-)

Good Luck! I have 3 cats and they all do this. I placed pennies into a tin can with a lid on it so that when shacked it makes a loud jingling sound that scares them away.

baby gate off the room–keep door closed. Or move the tree. Make sure no strung popcorn or tinsel, these can kill a cat (don’t ask you don’t want to know). Use a little squeeze of lemon juice mixed in the water for the cat it will sting and won’t hurt him. Give him a real sturdy log attached well (several screws) to a 3 foot wide base if he wants real wood.
Bottom line: you can’t. Keep him out of the room or move the tree to a room you can keep him out of. in case he gets in or things “track” Make suree not to use anything like strung cranberries, popcorn, or stringy like tinsel or wrap shiny fringy things that a string like piece might fall off. Don’t use electric lights–they might chew the cord when on. Use shatterproof balls and ornaments.

It won’t be the best idea. I used this for my old cat that wouldn’t stop pawing at the bedroom door in the morning.
Put your vacuum cleaner next to the Christmas tree. Plug the vacuum into a surge protector. Turn on the vacuum but turn off the surge protector. Plug the surge protector into a extension cord and put the surge protector next to where you sit most often.
Whenever the cat begins to climb the tree flip the switch to the surge protector and scare the cat. After about a week the cat will start to avoid the vacuum (The devowerer of bad kitties!). Unplug the vacuum but still leave it out. Eventually the cat will leave the tree alone.
Hope it helps.
