I am terrified of forgetting something when I go Christmas food shopping this week. I just want to know the essentials. I keep thinking its going to be the night before Christmas Dinner or the day of Christmas dinner and I’ve forgotten the milk or cinnamon. What is essential for not forgetting if you’re making a traditional Christmas dinner, like turkey, pumpkin pie, green bean casserole, ect.

I would suggest the thing which I always do. Whenever I shop for a formal dinner I take my recipe book with me. Making a list is a hectic job for me to do.
Best of luck for Ur Christmas dinner.

Depends on what you’re making but here’s mine:
Turkey
Potatoes
Milk
Cinnamon
Pumpkin Pie Filling
Pie Crust Makings
Green Beans
Bread
Celery
Onions
Apple Sauce
Cranberry Sauce
Carrots
Gravy Thickener
Apple Juice
Garlic
Butter
Paprika
Rosemary
Eggs
Bacon
Make a list of things that keep for a week, and a list of things that you should get a day before. Buy the stuff that keeps for a while a week before. That way you can get the stuff you forgot when you make the second shopping trip.

I made a master list of ingredients for the holiday recipes I normally use… Thanksgiving and Christmas…several years ago. I keep it in my household notebook. I use that to make up my grocery list, depending on which of the foods I’ve decided to make for the upcoming holiday, what I have on hand already and what I still need, and take that list to the store with me.
Dig out your recipes for the stuff you’re making and make a list of the ingredients, then check them against what you have on hand in your pantry, freezer and fridge and make up a list of what you still need. Be sure to keep the original list with all the ingredients so you’ll be able to use that from now on to make your shopping list!
One thing I almost always used to forget before I started the master list idea was CHICKEN BROTH. I use it in both my stuffing and gravy.
