At craft stores you can get “sculpie” It is a colored clay that becomes hard in the oven, it’s non toxic. just make sure theirs a hole in whatever they make so that you can string it up on the tree.
“Shrinky dinks” are still around. Read the instructions on the box. You can find them at craft or toy stores.
Find a pine cone and sparkle glue, decorate the pine come and then tie a sting to it.
Foil Bells- you take some foil and mold it into the shape of a bell, but leave a hole at the top (or just cut a hole in the top later) then stick a pipe cleaner through the hole and out the bottom. string a little jingle bell up the pipe cleaner. hot glue some ribbon to the top to hang it on the tree.
They have some awesome ideas and workshops at places like Garden Ridge Pottery, Hobby Lobby, Michaels, etc. One of our favorites is this: buy clear balls (i think they are plastic) and several colors of acrylic paints. You start by ********* a thin line of paint into the opening of the ornament so that is runs down in a line inside (not too much paint). Do this 2 or three times with different colors (space your ‘stripes’ a little away from each other) Then set the ornament aside and turn it a quarter turn every 15 mins. The paint will start to move and blend and makes awesome patterns and marbling effects. It is so cool and your kids will be so proud. Be careful though, this is addicting. God Bless.
cut out little circles and staple them together to make a little ball. use colored paper or some with a pattern, but not wrapping paper, or newspaper; it’s too thin.
you could get pipe-cleaners in red and white or green and twist them together and bend the end to make a candy cane. then you could hot glue them together or use part of a pipe cleaner.
if you got green too you could make leaves out of the green and get little red puff balls to make holly! then stick it on the candy cane somehow. and connect a string from the holly and where the “candy canes” meet.
You could trace their hands or feet on paper then paint it brown or use brown construction paper. Then let them decorate the prints to look like reindeer or a christmas tree.
Salt dough ornaments-1c salt 1c flour about 1/2 c water Mix salt and flour in a bowl and then slowly add the water. Knead until smooth and not sticky. Roll dough out and use cookie cutters to cut different shapes. Poke a hole at the top using a straw so you can hang it. Bake at 150F for 30min then turn up to 225F for another 30min. They are done when they are golden brown and are no longer soft. Let them cool and then paint and add other decorations to them.
Christmas tree ornaments- 1 Medium or small clay pot pine cones glitter paint Paint the clay pot however you like then glue the pine cone inside the pot. Put glue on the pine cone and sprinkle with glitter. Glue a string onto the back of the pine cone and hang from the tree.
Reindeer- Take 3 pop cycle sticks and glue two of the tips together. Take the third and glue it onto the other two with the ends sticking out for the ears. Glue on googly eyes and a red pom pom nose and a piece of yarn and hang it.
Styrafoam ornaments-Take a styrafoam ball and you can paint it, add glitter or glue a picture on it,
You could always bake and decorate gingerbread cookies in a variety of shapes; wrap them in plastic wrap to preserve them; and hang them from the tree with ribbons. Or make origami ornaments!
Go to Michaels and see if they have any classes for children making Christmas tree ornaments. Michaels always has classes for making some arts and crafts during the year.
I made these two ornaments with my kids. Its great because they arent breakable and the kids had a blast making them out of easy to use felt. What was even better, these ornaments are very inexpensive and easy to make. You have got to check these instructions to see pics of how cute they really are. 🙂

well, using popcycle sticks, they can create a design, spray paint it and even glue old christmas cards (pictures) to it, or family photos.
We also use toothpicks, and dough. The dough we cut out with cookie cutters and paint them. Many options!

They could make hanging decorations:
You will need paper, cardboard, paper glue, and string.
1. Let them draw their desired picture on the paper (some thing that had to do with Christmas)
2. Cut out the picture
3. Glue it to the cardboard
4 cut out make a small hole at the top
5. Put the string through the hole and make a knot at the top
Also they can make a popcorn string
You will need thread a needle, and unsalted/buttered popcorn
1. Thread the needle
2. Poke the popcorn with the needle
3. Slide down the thread
4. Repeat steps 2&3
5. When it is all done rap around tree
(You can also do this craft with beads)
