I’m putting away my Christmas things, and I don’t have much space. We don’t have a basement, just an attic for storage. I can’t lift the artificial tree into the attic. Do you think it’s safe to store the tree in the garage? Is it safe to store the knicknacks in the attic?

We store our christmas things in huge plastic containers. They are clear so you can see what is inside, and they have lids that snap on. I think we got ours at Target but most stores will have something like them. They stack, they keep out dust and moisture, and you can see what is in them. You also might be able to get a larger plastic storage bin especially for the tree so you can store it in the garage without worrying if something is going to happen to it.

If you seal up the tree well…insects might want to make a home in the tree box (in the garage) I think most people store the ornaments and “knick knacks in their attic. (new at this?)

We keep a lot of Christmas decorations in our garage. It is fine. Nicknack’s are fine in the attic if they can take the heat. Attics can get very warm.

The only things you need to worry about when storing these decorations are mice and moisture. The tree is synthetic and not really attractive to mice and most can handle a little moisture. My attic is packed with everything from antique linens to old pictures and china and I have never had a problem with anything. You can always put things in plastic tubs and they should be safe from it all.

Buy some of those plastic storage bins..you can usually find them on sale for $5 or so. You’ll be amazed at how much you can fit in them. And as far as the tree, if it’s a fake one, you can store it anywhere. Rubbermaid even sells a carrying bag (I saw them at Target and I have to go back and get one!) for $10 that holds a tree that’s up to 7 1/2 feet tall. And the knicknacks will be fine in the attic, just wrap them in newspaper or something that will keep them from crashing into each other, and put them away in the storage bins.
Don’t waste time with cardboard boxes, though, because if your roof leaks or there’s any moisture, you’ll get mold. The plastic bins are much better and if you get the stackable ones, you’ll be able to store a lot in a little bit of space.

sure…we keep all our stuff in the attic in plastic boxes with snap on tops and handles…the tree goes up too…just box that plastic and drag it up the stairs…this year I saw an ad for a heavy canvas tree bag with handles…looked cool

We keep ours in the storage shelter in the hall. Your things should be ok where you are placing them. It is best to put them in a cool dry place.

Well I kept mines in the attic next to the X-Mas tree, evrry 3 months or so I take te tree out to dust it and spray some insecticide on it. The rest of the stuff in my walking closet well wrapped.

We have our tree in a large plastic storage bin, and it’s been stored in garages, attics and basements at various times in it’s 15 year life. It has come to no harm in any of the spots. The knicknacks are also stored in plastic bins (Rubbermaid type containers), wrapped or boxed inside. Aside from the candles and fabric things, it’s all been fine in the basements and attics. The candles tend to do better in basements, as attics can get really hot and we had some get warped in the attic. On the other hand, the attic was much easier on the tablecloths and such than the basement, for the basement tended to be damper than the attic. If you just talking about the tree decorations and such, they should do just fine in the attic. Just keep the linens and candles, and delicate items in the house – perhaps in a closet or under the bed. And be sure to keep the tree in a plastic tub if you put it in the garage, so no “creatures” go stirring for nesting materials during the rest of the year.

Yes I think that all these would be allright in your garage, but be sure to put them in container where the insects and mice cant get to them.. You might want to put some moth balls in them.

place anything you are storing in plastic containers will keep the bugs and mice out and things safer…. I keep mine out in my shed at it and the shed isn’t completely sealed. when we had the original cardboard box it ended up with a bunch of water beetls or roach like bugs in it so we had to shake it out a bunch before bringing it in. so needless to say plastic is better then you can store it anywhere.

Steffie, wrap ur knick-Nacs in news paper or go to any package store, like UPS or Postal Service and buy some sheets of bubble wrap. Then just store em in any plastic tote that can be bought anywhere. Get an old Army duffle bag and store ur tree in it. Works great. I leave some lights up in the house for MOOD lighting. I keep my christmas stuff in rubbermaid storage box. Works very nice, and nothing gets through it- also they come in different sizes. Same for the knick knacks- if theyre breakable, wrap in paper or bubble wrap, keep in a special corner with nothing else can fall on it.

we put everything in plastic containers in the attic. the ones with the snap on lids. just leave the tree inthe garage.

I WOULD GET A SMALLER ARTIFICIAL TREE (ABOUT 2 FEET TALL) AND LEAVE IT DECORATED ALL YEAR ROUND. JUST PUT A CLOTH OVER IT WHEN THE SEASON WINDS DOWN AND STORE IT ABOUT ANYWHERE. LEAVE THE LIGHTS ETC ON THE TREE READY FOR THE NEXT SEASON. YOU CAN SIT IT ON A TABLE ANYWHERE DURING THE HOLIDAY.

wish i had a attic . i live in a small house ,,so santa goes under kitchen sink ,,reindeer’s go in kitchen behind small deep freezer ,, have a big tub that sit in bath room floor where year around my Landry basket sits,, this is where lights and Christmas thing go,,a/tree in bedroom closet . yes your tree will fair well in attic .my daughter puts here there.
